
SpindleTop Film Festival
Lamar University offers courses in film production and film theory
through its communication program. Film and video courses include novice
and advanced film production, digital editing, broadcast, audio/radio
production, documentary filmmaking and screenwriting. Lamar Univ. hosts its SpindleTop Film Festival
every year, and extreme picked up TWO major awards:

The Telly Award
The Telly Awards was founded in 1980, to showcase and give recognition to
outstanding non-network and cable commercials. The competition was expanded
several years ago to include film and video productions. Over the past 18 years,
the Telly Awards has become a well-known, highly respected national competition.

The Broadcast Education Association
The Broadcast Education Association is the professional association for professors,
industry professionals and graduate students who are interested in teaching and research
related to electronic media and multimedia enterprises. There are currently more than 1,400
individual and institutional members. The BEA awards outstanding student video and multimedia productions
for their amazing efforts.

The National Broadcasting Society
The National Broadcasting Society - Alpha Epsilon Rho was formed on the campus of Stephens
College in Missouri in 1943. It was originally called Alpha Epsilon Rho in honor of the
Association for Education in Radio (AER) which the organization met in convention with in
Columbus, Ohio for many years. The National Broadcasting Society has as its purpose to
enhance the development of college and university students involved in broadcasting, cable,
telecommunications and other electronic media by recognizing the best of the best of college
video productions.
